Bolton Wanderers players marked out of 10 after Wigan Athletic penalty defeat
WANDERERS (4-2-3-1).
MATT GILKSâ¦6.5.
Competent return for Gilks, whose grasp on a clean sheet was only really tested by a couple of pots shots from Humphrys. Came up with a save in the shootout too.
HARRY BROCKBANKâ¦5.5.
Defensively sounds aside from a wobbly spell in the second half but his link-up down the right didnât really give Wigan enough to think about.
ALEX BAPTISTEâ¦6.5.
Aside from a couple of misplaced passes it was a decent return to the side for Baptiste, who very nearly grabbed a winner at the death.
GEORGE JOHNSTONâ¦7.
Looked hungry on his return to Wigan and defended well, particularly with a fine block to deny Max Power in the first half.
LIAM GORDONâ¦5.5.
Worried for him early on as he hadnât quite got to the pace of the game and made a couple of errors on the ball but did recover and had a decent second half.
KIERAN LEEâ¦7.5.
Best we have seen from Lee in a while. Got involved, linked up well when Bolton brought the ball out of defence. Didnât waste possession.
GEORGE THOMASONâ¦6.
There was little control in the middle of the park for either side, and Thomason had trouble getting involved at times. Stuck to his task, though.
NATHAN DELFOUNESOâ¦5.5.
Missed the penalty â" which happens. But looked a couple of beats off his game, which may be a lack of match sharpness. Will come good.
JOSH SHEEHANâ¦6.
Some classy touches â" but did he get on the ball where it mattered? Wanderers seemed to struggle playing through midfield. Set pieces were a little inconsistent too.
DAPO AFOLAYANâ¦6.5.
Excellent first half, when he seemed to be the key to winning the contest. Not quite as influential I the second half.
ELIAS KACHUNGAâ¦6.
Showed a feistiness that the Bolton fans will love â" but clearly still feeling his way towards full fitness and was replaced by Doyle after an hour.
Subs: Doyle 65 (for Kachunga), Sarcevic 68 (for Thomason), Jones 72 (for Brockbank) Not used: Dixon, John, Santos, Tutte.
Wigan (4-2-3-1): Jones; Darikwa, Naylor, Watts, Pearce; Power, Smith; Massey, Edwards, McClean; Humphrys.
Subs: Lang 65 (for Edwards), Aasgaard 69 (for Darikwa), Jones 86 (for McClean) Not Used: Amos, Carragher, Robinson, Lloyd.
Referee: Thomas Bramall â" 7/10: Went a bit card happy for a few minutes before the interval but it did have the desired effect, taking some of the sting out of the derby.
Attendance: 11,660 (4,662)
