  • Tom Papley is doing all he can to wrangle this game away from the Bombers as he ran onto a bouncing ball deep in the pocket before grubbering a kick into the goals.

Papley really is a match-winner and he still wants more.

Swans lead 66-59 with five mins left in Q3.

This game is lifting in intensity and importance so it was no shock that Tom Papley forced himself into the contest and came up with a cracking, bouncing goal that briefly extended Sydney’s lead.

That extension didn’t last long as Jake Stringer kicked a goal from 50 or more metres out just moments after the bounce and it went through just below post height.

Sydney leads 60-59 with six mins left in Q3.

Langford has kicked his third goal and cut the margin to a point.

He let our a scream after that one and wants his side to fire up again.

Swans lead 54-53 with eight mins left in Q3.

Sam Wicks has taken a mark in the square then played on and snapped a goal to put the Swans back in front.

Sydney has deserved everything they have got this quarter as they have won contested, surged forward and caught Essendon’s defence on the hop.

This is the style of footy that has won fans around the league this season. Here comes the Swans.

Luke Parker has followed up with another goal.

Swans lead 54-47 with 10 mins left in Q3.

Isaac Heeney and Luke Parker linked up to conjure a goal for the Swans who aren’t having a great day but are continue to fight and stay in the contest.

Feeney took some damage to his thumb while winning the footy before sending it forward where Parker won it and then kicked the goal.

Bombers lead 47-42 with 12 mins left in Q3.

Will Hayward has snapped a goal for the Swans who have made an energetic start to the third term after going in behind at half-time.

Hayward is pumping his fist and firing up his teammates, the Swans will need all the energy and inspiration they can get to take a win from this match.

Bombers lead 41-36 with 18 mins left in Q3.

Gary Rohan’s last-second goal sent Sydney into the AFL’s top eight for the first time in 300 days and ensured a one-point win over a gallant Essendon after a wasteful night at the SCG.

Rohan snared a one-handed mark on the goal line in the dying seconds, and went back to slot the set shot in front of 34,575 fans who thought they’d watched the Swans throw away their sixth win of the season after a brilliant Essendon comeback.

Lance Franklin missed a shot after the half-time siren but it matters little as the Bombers were the far better side in that second term running in numbers and passing with relish.

Kyle Langford has two goals for Essendon while Zach Merrett has 18 touches and Darcy Parrish has 16 touches.

Callum Mills (18 touches) and Jake Lloyd (14 touches) have had plenty of the football but the Swans haven’t made good use of their possessions and it has hurt them dearly.

Dylan Clarke has popped up in the forward line and kicked a valuable goal for the Bombers who have now kicked three goals in a row.

Clarke pulled in a strong mark and was screaming out after his goal - the Bombers continue to look good in this first half.

Dons lead 41-28 with four mins left in Q2.

This is turning into a nightmare for Brisbane, who look anything like a premiership hope on this dreadful performance.

Halfway through the third quarter they are 47 points behind the Hawks, who have barely been able to buy a win in recent weeks.

Joe Daniher and Charlie Cameron have barely been sighted, but they are hardly alone in what has been so far a very disappointing effort by the Queenslanders with aspirations for September success.
